چکیده

abstract objectives: the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between core stability and lower extremity injuries in female athletes through functional tests. decreased core stability has been suggested to contribute to the etiology of lower extremity injuries. so far researches had been used non-functional tests to assess the core stability. material and methods: fifty collegiate female athletes with a 3-year history of participating in volleyball, basketball and handball (mean age: 21.30 ± 1.4, mean weight: 59.92 ± 2.14, and mean height: 163/06 ± 2.33) who also had a history of lower extremity injury in the past two years were selected for this study. lumbopelvic stability and endurance of the core stabilizer muscles were assessed for each subject by step down test and a collection of tests derived from core stability exercises. results: pearson correlation and fisher’s z test indicated that in female athletes, core stability significantly correlated with lower extremity injuries (p ≤ 0.05) and every component of the above-mentioned tests was negatively related to lower extremity injury (r = -0.690). in this study, the strongest correlation was found to exist between lumbopelvic stability and lower extremity injuries. conclusion: core stability has an important role in lower extremity injuries. thus, it is suggested that strengthening of core stabilizer muscles be used for preventing the lower extremity injuries in female athletes.

Comparison of different methods of core muscle fatigue on lower extremity function tests among female athletes

Despite the importance of core muscles in kinetic chains, the importance of each muscle compared to others has rarely been investigated. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of each core muscle fatigue on lower extremity function tests. This quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design was performed on 30 physical educations, female students with the mean age of 23.46±...

Core stability measures as risk factors for lower extremity injury in athletes.

INTRODUCTION/PURPOSE Decreased lumbo-pelvic (or core) stability has been suggested to contribute to the etiology of lower extremity injuries, particularly in females. This prospective study compares core stability measures between genders and between athletes who reported an injury during their season versus those who did not. Finally, we looked for one or a combination of these strength measur...

Does core strength training influence kinetic efficiency, lower extremity stability, and 5000m performance in runners?

Context: Core strength training (CST) has been popular in the fitness industry for a decade. Although strong core muscles are believed to enhance athletic performance, only few scientific studies have been conducted to identify the effectiveness of CST on improving athletic performance. Objective: Identify the effects of a 6-wk CST on running kinetics, lower extremity stability, and running per...

Lower extremity injuries in snowboarders.

The popularity of skiing and snowboarding has increased tremendously over the past few decades. Whereas skiing has been an established winter sport for some time, snowboarding was created only in the 1960s. The great surge in popularity of snowboarding was sparked by its inclusion in the 1998 Winter Olympics. With increased participation in these winter activities has come a tremendous rise in ...
